Global Week of Climate Action 2025: Youth Driving Climate Justice in Akwa Ibom

Activity Overview

The Global Week of Climate Action (GWCA) 2025, held from 15th–21st September 2025 in Uyo and Ibeno LGAs, Akwa Ibom State, brought together young people, community actors, civil society, and media to advance the call for climate justice and a just transition.

Through a combination of digital advocacy, radio engagement, school sensitisation, community action, and policy development, the youth-led campaign amplified local voices in oil-host and climate-vulnerable communities, reaching an estimated 13,000 people online and offline.

A key outcome of the week was the development of a youth-led Agroecology Policy Brief, aimed at promoting a just transition in agriculture and strengthening youth inclusion in climate governance in Akwa Ibom State.

The Global Week of Climate Action 2025 reaffirmed the role of young people as drivers of change, laying the groundwork for sustained advocacy and policy engagement at the state level.
