The one-day workshop on “Using Freedom of Information (FOI) to Facilitate Transparency in Public Procurement and Projects Implementation” took place on September 18, 2023, organized by the Social Development Integrated Centre (Social Action) with support from the MacArthur Foundation. Held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the workshop aimed to empower community leaders and CBO representatives to utilize the FOI Act for promoting transparency and accountability. Activities included presentations, discussions, practical exercises, and breakout sessions. Participants, totaling 34 individuals from various sectors, gained awareness and practical skills regarding FOI requests. Notable facilitators shared insights, and the workshop emphasized sustained progress through implementing FOI requests, community sensitization, and collaboration. Overall, the workshop provided a valuable platform for enhancing transparency and accountability in public procurement and project implementation.
